Verbatim

n. Word for Word

A free, open-source platform for paperless debate, built as a template for Microsoft Word.

Verbatim requires a “full” version of Microsoft Office (Office 365 or standalone), which includes support for VBA macros. It will not work with Office Online, the Office Starter Pack, Office Home and Student, Office RT (e.g. for the Surface tablet), Office for iPad, Office for Android, or the version of Office in the Microsoft App Store.

Other Downloads

If you’re getting a virus/trojan warning trying to download v5.1.1, it’s a false positive. There is nothing harmful in Verbatim. Microsoft recently got much more aggressive flagging false positives for files that contain VBA macros (like Verbatim). Some people have reported success using the older v.5.0 (available at the link below), which has no significant functionality difference.

Cite Creator

Cite Creator is a chrome extension that produces cites for use in high school or college debate, using information in html tags or page info, and copies them to the clipboard. It has both automatic and manual modes, and outputs cites that work well with Verbatim. It works on both PC and Mac.

Cite Creator works best on major news websites, and is unlikely to work on Lexis or in PDF’s.

You can find it in the Chrome Web Store.
